How We Got Here
Full Spectrum began in August 2002 as "Light Energy Systems," when lead Engineer Burke O'Neal returned from his position with the California-based Light Energy Systems to set up a similar business with his brother, Master Plumber Mark O'Neal.

With Light Energy Systems in California, Burke designed and supervised the installation of more than a hundred grid-connected photovoltaic and solar thermal systems. Here in Madison, our team has installed over 200 solar energy systems. Our most visible projects include Yahara River View Apartments, Troy Gardens Co-housing, and Holy Wisdom Monastery in Madison; the Milwaukee Recycling Center in Milwaukee; Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in LaCrosse; Evansville Community Pool in Evansville; and Dominican Eco-Justice Center in Racine.

With licensed plumbers, electricians, and four degreed engineers on staff, we are among the most highly credentialed solar contractors operating in the midwest. We are licensed as an electrical contractor and HVAC contractor in Wisconsin, and we are fully insured.

Utility Vans

Our diesel utility vans are mainly Dodge Sprinters, achieving over 20 mpg fuel economy in service - 40% to 50% better than a standard gasoline fueled van  
 
 

Featured Passenger Car

Our 1990 Volkswagon Jetta diesel has been running mainly on waste vegetable oil (WVO) for the last five years of service. We installed a "Frybrid" conversion kit, whereby the engine starts and finishes each trip with diesel to heat up the WVO lines.  
 
 

Electric Hybrid Bicycle

For short trips around town, we ride a solar-charged hybrid electric bicycle. The battery range is about 20 miles, or it can be pedaled with electric assist.
